Summary of Role

IntraHealth is seeking a Chief of Party (COP) for a proposal for the Amplify Family Planning and Sexual and Reproductive Health Activity (Amplify-FP) – USAID West Africa’s flagship family planning and reproductive health investment to help achieve the goal of the Ouagadougou Partnership (OP) to reach an additional 2.2M FP users by 2020. The COP will bring forth the strategic vision of this unique, catalytic project, focusing in urban and peri-urban areas of the 4 target countries, as well as more broadly in Francophone West Africa (FWA) and ultimately in ECOWAS region. The COP will provide overall leadership for the promotion, replication and sustained scale-up of high impact FP practices to maximize gains and accelerate progress towards national and regional health and development goals. The COP will have overall responsibility for establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships with key stakeholders and constituencies at the country and regional level, for managing and coordinating all Amplify-FP strategies and resources to achieve sustainable results. S/he will have outstanding adaptive leadership, management and strategic planning skills and experience; strong interpersonal and written and oral communication skills; and, state-of-the-art technical expertise in sexual and reproductive health in sub-Saharan Africa. S/he will also have experience interacting with government, donors and international organizations, private sector, and other key stakeholders at country and regional levels.


  • A Master’s degree or higher in public health, business administration, international development, or similar field;
  • 15 years of demonstrated experience in leading, implementing, managing and delivering results in health programs in low income countries;
  • Substantial skills and experience in sexual and reproductive health, and in management, leadership and strategic planning, strongly preferred;
  • Extensive experience working in Francophone West Africa strongly preferred;
  • Prior experience as a COP, Deputy COP or equivalent for a USAID funded project;
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience of multidisciplinary and multicultural technical, programmatic and operational teams;
  • Extensive experience building and maintaining effective partnerships and leveraging resources with national, regional and development stakeholders and partners;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English (4S/4R minimum) and French (4S/4R minimum);
  • Demonstrated representational experience with government, donors, international agencies, private sector and other key stakeholders;
  • Ability to travel with in the FWA and ECOWAS regions an estimated 35-40% time.
