Responsibilities

The Support Unit will engage a health and climate change expert/s on a call-down basis, to respond to support requests and provide specialist advisory services to the support unit. DFAT will approach the Support Unit to procure a range of services, including but not limited to:

  • Reviewing proposed DFAT aid program investment strategies, plans and designs in the health sector and providing advice to incorporate climate and disaster risks and resilience building;
  • Providing technical advice to DFAT program managers and implementation partners on specific issues related to the climate change/health nexus;
  • Providing targeted research and/or synthesis of existing knowledge to assist in evidence-based decision-making and knowledge sharing to inform DFAT aid investment planning in the health sector.

There is no obligation on the Support Unit to offer any minimum amount of work and the Advisor/s are not obliged to accept any task that is offered to them.

Requirements

Minimum education and experience required:

  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to health sector service delivery, public health, health policy, development and/or governance;
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in health, and (preferably) the intersection of health and climate change in a Pacific context;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of DFAT aid policies and strategies, and other relevant Australian Government policies;
  • Proven ability to conduct analytical studies and synthesis of knowledge in the health sector (preferably in a Pacific context), to produce tailored information products for specific audiences, and to work with stakeholders to develop practical solutions to fill gaps and address barriers and challenges;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and provide advisory services, coaching and mentoring to people from diverse backgrounds, perspectives and sectors, and a professional commitment to promote a culture of gender equality and social inclusion;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of climate change and health outcomes, preferably in the Pacific.
