FHI 360 is seeking applications for a Technology and Innovation Advisor for an anticipated project in Guatemala, focused on improving the health and nutritional status of women and children in selected communities of the Western Highlands which will result in reductions of stunted children, and maternal and child morbidity and mortality, and keeping low the prevalence of anemia and micronutrient deficiencies. This will occur as the result of improving service delivery and strengthening health systems, especially of human resources for health (HRH) in Guatemala. The Technology and Innovation Advisor will be responsible for development of an approach that integrates science, information and communication technology and innovation approaches into activities.

The position will report to the Chief of Party. Recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project and the selection of the final applicant is subject to USAID approval.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

The Technology and Innovation Advisor will have the following responsibilities:

  • Propose and offer guidance on programming that increases the use of technology, including digital technologies, to improve development outcomes and to empower communities
  • Develop partnerships and identify opportunities to collaborate on the application of technology and innovative solutions
  • Lead activities to accelerate digital solutions for priority health and nutrition needs
  • Ensure and enhance adherence to the principles for digital development
  • Review emerging research on innovations in global health and share with senior project staff and other stakeholders as appropriate
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to project teams on all technology and innovation interventions
  • Assess the functions, limitations, opportunities and challenges of technology, including specific software products, in healthcare and public health settings
  • Ensure identification of performance metrics for innovations and technology solutions and design strategies for monitoring and reporting performance metrics
  • Represent the project at forums, meetings, and conferences, promoting dialogue and supporting the dissemination of project information

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above in media, communications, technology innovation management, international development or a related subject
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience working in technology and innovation/entrepreneurship and/or international development
  • Direct experience promoting user-friendly and sustainable technology solutions or other innovations for vulnerable populations
  • Knowledge and experience working within the health sector; experience working in on USAID-funded projects preferred
  • Experienced in the use of digital health to support one or more of the following areas: health systems development and strengthening, health care service delivery, performance and quality improvement, training and supervising health care workers
  • Experience designing, developing, implementing, and/or evaluating digital health-supported projects in limited resource environments
  • Experience and familiarity with nutrition, reproductive health/family planning, and/or maternal newborn
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective working relations with host country government personnel, stakeholders, NGO partners, and international donor agencies
  • Experience working in Quiche and Huehuetenango preferred
  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Ability to work independently and manage a high volume work flow
  • Relevant computer software skills, including at a minimum, MS Word and Excel
