We are looking for an enthusiastic Outreach and Strategic Communications Specialist to join our dynamic Communications and Marketing Department. WorldFish, a unique and well-respected international research organization with a mission to inform and influence solutions to global challenges, such as food security, nutrition, poverty, ocean governance, climate change and gender equality through high-quality science and strong research evidence on sustainable aquaculture and fisheries.

The post holder will be responsible for maximizing the development impact of research findings produced by WorldFish and the CGIAR Research Program on Fish Agri-Food Systems through better targeting, promotion and communication of our research evidence, insights, data and knowledge via print and digital media campaigns and strategic engagement opportunities at global and regional levels across Africa, Asia and the Pacific.

Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing and working closely with the Director General’s Office, the incumbent must be creative and results-oriented professional, who is media and digital-savvy with excellent communication and presentation skills and outstanding planning and coordination abilities across different geographical locations.

We are looking for an ideal candidate whom is a communications all-rounder who thrives working in dynamic, fast-paced projects and wants to make a difference through his/her work. From planning and resource management, through reporting and risk management, s/he will work closely with a team of communications experts and/or consultant to flawlessly and cohesively, execute the marketing, outreach, branding, media and press related aspect of WorldFish’s strategic communication work around global events and projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, develop and implement strategic and innovative communications activities.
  • Support preparation of think pieces, op-ed articles, public statements, media kits and press releases, factsheets, talking points, messaging, speeches and presentations and multimedia content.
  • Assist or lead development and publication of organizational documents.
  • Create personalized print and digital content and communications.
  • Create and draft media plans and messaging, develop content calendars and support public relations and marketing strategy development and implementation, including digital channels.
  • Pitch key WorldFish/FISH messages to media and relevant actors and handle on-site logistics for media/press/global events.
  • Build and maintain sustained communication with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Respond to inquiries from internal and external parties, including media.
  • Enhance coherence of brand identity across multiple channels.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of the strategic campaigns, including media coverage, adapting communications.
  • Support colleagues in the Communications and Marketing department with planning and implementing complex tasks to share knowledge and jointly grow professionally.
  • Assist in other communications tasks and initiatives as assigned by the Director of Communications and Marketing.


Preferred qualifications

  • Previous experience with CGIAR centers or CGIAR research programs.

Key qualifications and skills

  • Advanced Degree in Communications, Journalism, International Development, Public Policy and/or related field.
  • At least 5–6 years of demonstrated experience and expertise in planning, implementing and evaluating complex outreach and strategic communications for global, regional and national programs and activities in a research-for-development setting.
  • Extensive experience with conducting in-depth policy and issue research in a variety of areas relating to the global sustainable development agenda.
  • Native or near-native-level English with excellent presentation, facilitation, oral and writing with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to digest, analyze and present complex information clearly and concisely in a wide variety of formats to non-scientific audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and to manage tight deadlines and multiple projects.
  • Good understanding and use of social platforms interactive multimedia tools and media monitoring tools.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, organizational, grammar and editorial skills, with attention to detail and team coordination.
