Overview

Based in New Delhi, the Deputy Director-Communicable Diseases will be a member of the country leadership team and contribute to the overall management, strategy and objectives. This is a leadership position of substantial responsibility and accountability and reports directly to the Country Director. He/she would be responsible for ensuring strategic development of high quality, evidence based, innovative programs that deliver transformational and lasting impact for the most vulnerable populations. A key aspect of the role is to ensure working in collaboration with program managers/staff and to support and promote progressive program implementation. The candidate will also lead the development of external relationships and contribute to the submission of high quality reports/proposals to donors and interested parties.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the alignment building process of communicable disease programs to CHAI’s global strategy and theory of change.
  • High-level representational role with the government, donors, partners and other stakeholders.
  • Lead in innovative programme design, planning, follow-up, evaluation, quality strengthening and reporting.
  • Ensure sponsorship projects are aligned with the global and country strategy as well as the donor commitments.
  • Serve as liaison with designated CHAI programmatic verticals on various operational and strategic issues.
  • Manage multi- and bilateral donor funded grants/contracts and other fund sources in a senior management role.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate or masters’ degree in management, public health, health economics or related field.
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in private or public sector enterprise; including demonstrated success in strategy, project management, research and monitoring and evaluation programs.
  • Excellent knowledge of program monitoring and evaluation methods (qualitative and quantitative), including experience developing monitoring and evaluation plans, tools, training materials, reports and summary forms.
  • Ability to negotiate and achieve consensus with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to creatively solve challenging problems in the application of research and evaluation methods without extensive structural or operational support.
  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced and changing environments, both internally and externally.
  • Excellent business-oriented verbal, visual and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience working in a developing country with ability to function well in rural settings with limited infrastructure and services.
  • Willingness to travel and spend significant time in the field.
  • English & Hindi language fluency, both written and verbal required.
  • Previous management of programme portfolios with multiple partners (including government and civil society).
  • Experience in managing complex and multi-thematic programs, especially in areas of communicable diseases.
