Overview

Banyan Global is recruiting a for a long term part-time gender and youth specialist position for an upcoming USAID regional project in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. The purpose of this project is to promote broad-based, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Eastern and Central Europe and the Caucuses through greater intraregional economic integration and harmonization in the region and with other markets. Candidates must be based in one of the following Western Balkans countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, or Serbia.

Responsibilities

Illustrative responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical assistance on market oriented, economic development programming related to gender and youth issues in the Balkans and Eastern European region;
  • Undertake gender and possibly youth analyses/assessments and make recommendations regarding future economic growth programming that will lead to greater gender and youth integration;
  • Maintain an up-to-date and thorough understanding of gender and youth issues related to specific economic development topics (trade, value chains, access to finance, workforce development, etc);
  • Facilitate gender and youth trainings with project staff and partners;
  • Review and provide input to project work plans, with attention to gender and youth dimensions of technical activities and operations, and discuss gender and youth issues/priorities with project’s senior management and other technical specialists;
  • Work together with project staff on assessments and studies to incorporate gender and youth-focused questions and required information, and create a plan for obtaining needed information;
  • Liaise with technical component leaders to ensure that gender and youth considerations are assessed and accounted for.

Qualifications

  • Citizenship and residency in one of the countries listed above;
  • Bachelor’s degree in gender, sociology, international development, business, economics, law, or another relevant area from an accredited institution; graduate degree preferred;
  • 5+ years of experience in gender and/or youth, and economic development, preferably in the Balkans region;
  • Experience working on donor-funded projects in South-East, Central Europe and/or the Caucuses, USAID experience preferred;
  • Experience coordinating with project COP, team leaders, fellow consultants;
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically and clearly with USAID staff, partners and national organizations; and
  • Ability to work at a professional level in English, including reading, writing and making oral presentations.
