One such role is program coordinator for our Sexual Violence in Conflict Zones (SVCZ) program. This position has two primary functions: first, in relation to a PHR research project, the coordinator will contribute to all phases of administration, research and advocacy for documentation of sexual violence in refugee populations in Bangladesh; secondly the coordinator will assist the SVCZ program with activities and initiatives undertaken in Africa, the Middle East, and beyond. The coordinator will work with the team to develop and advance program goals, and fully and effectively realize program deliverables.

This position is grant-dependent. Under the terms of the grant, this position will start immediately and is estimated to last for up to one and a half years. Any continuation beyond that point would be dependent upon securing additional funding.

Reports to: Senior Program Officer, SVCZ Program.


Bangladesh Research Responsibilities

  • Research and document the human rights situation in Bangladesh and Myanmar, including collecting and analyzing information from a wide range of sources such as governments, NGOs, and media.
  • Support program staff and external consultants to maintain and analyze quantitative databases containing research findings
  • Play a key supporting role in efforts to document and report on sexual violence in Myanmar, as well as contribute to research in all areas of the region.
  • Facilitate the hiring of independent contractors and ensure fees are paid in a timely manner.
  • Support advocacy efforts and disseminate research findings, in collaboration with advocacy and communications teams.

SVCZ Program Responsibilities

  • Assist program management SVCZ team members with program scale-up in Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, and additional countries.
  • Monitor human rights and sexual violence issues, keeping team informed of real-time developments.
  • Contribute to the development of training curriculums, specifically cross-sectoral modules on documentation of forensic evidence of sexual violence, and other abuses designed for health, law enforcement, and legal professionals.
  • Collaborate with program trainers and other relevant experts and professionals to identify, help design, develop, and prepare content for printed training products and assemble training materials.
  • Work with supervisor to track program progress through monitoring and evaluation databases, management tools, and annual work plans.
  • Assist the team to maintain relationships with key stakeholders and other external parties.
  • Translate written documents, oral recordings, and other material between English and French.

Overall responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, or assist in the creation of programmatic outputs and communications products, such as PowerPoint presentations, training materials, manuals, blog posts, web, social media, and publication content as directed.
  • Provide subject matter input and materials necessary to draft grant proposals; develop and manage detailed budgets; help monitor programmatic and grant-specific expenditures; and assist in budget tracking and reporting to funders/donors, ensuring adherence to timelines and spending guidelines.
  • Coordinate all security and logistical support, including organizing domestic and international travel and events, in coordination with the project and program team.
  • Any other general project-related and programmatic support, as needed


  • Bachelor’s degree at a minimum; an advanced degree in public health, international relations, medicine, law, social sciences, education, or related field is preferred.
  • At least four years of relevant work experience in a professional setting, preferably in a complex and fast-paced organization, interacting intensively with internal and external contacts.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with human rights issues and sexual violence in conflict settings; prior experience working on and familiarity with the subject preferred.
  • •Curriculum development and/or training experience an asset, budget and project management experience preferred.
  • Experience working or living in South Asia, Southeast Asia, or Africa an asset.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English and French required; Bangla also desirable.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to post-conflict regions, as needed.

  • Energetic self-starter with the ability to anticipate upcoming needs, with attention to detail and follow-through, able to work effectively under pressure and to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality and cope with repeated exposure to graphic and disturbing content
  • Mature, resilient, resourceful, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite is required, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis software is preferred
  • Strong commitment to human rights and PHR’s mission and goals, with cross-cultural experience and cultural sensitivity
