JOB SUMMARY:

The Regional Advocacy and Partnership Manager provides advocacy leadership on SRHR in the West and Central Africa region. She/he supports efforts to advance SRHR, especially access to comprehensive abortion care, with an interest in advocacy for gender equality as well, in Cote d’Ivoire, and to foster coordination for post-partum family planning activities in DRC. The position works closely with the Regional and Country Representative and program staff to support and provide oversight for advocacy programs and activities, to cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, and to create and implement communications and resource-mobilization strategies to accomplish EH vision, commitments, goals and objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Regional Advocacy and Partnership Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Engage with a variety of civil society and government organizations, networks, coalitions and leaders to foster cooperation in joint advocacy initiatives related to revision of the SRHR law in Cote d’Ivoire, budget advocacy, and to advance access to comprehensive safe abortion care.
  • Coordinate EngenderHealth’s participation in strategic engagement with relevant stakeholders to increase political will and resource commitments to improve SRHR and gender equality.
  • Track and document the results of advocacy initiatives in line with EngenderHealth Results Frameworks to ensure that advocacy efforts are contributing to tangible results as per countries’ national plans, Ouagadougou Partnership, and FP2020 goals.
  • Build the capacity of other EH staff on effective partnership, advocacy, communications and media relations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of advocacy, external communication and visibility strategies for EngenderHealth across West and Central Africa, ensure synergies in communication activities across projects, and support the effective representation of EngenderHealth and its mission in appropriate for a such as relevant technical working groups, committees, and alliances with partners, donors and government for advocacy
  • Provide support to Regional Representative and other team members in fulfilling their representational roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership to an ongoing advocacy project, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective delivery of a high-quality program that produces results.
  • Co-lead required formative research for project start, and liaise with existing organization’s working in comprehensive abortion care (CAC) to avoid duplication, and use existing relevant data in countries of intervention.
  • Review and assess existing SRHR marketing and information sharing in countries of intervention and make recommendations to improve demand generation for SRHR information and services.
  • Support MOH in guidelines and SOPs revisions by building and working with a cohort of SRHR champion TWG.
  • Attend all relevant gathering and meetings take lead in preparing and reviewing monthly and donor quarterly reports.
  • Lead development of EngenderHealth regional Office Business Development Strategy, in collaboration with the Countries Management Team.
  • Support planning, writing and editing funding proposals in compliance with organizational and donor guidelines and standards, in collaboration with other staff, including the Country Representative and Senior Management Team (SMT) and ensuring that applications and concept notes meet donor and EngenderHealth guidelines.
  • Advise the organization on changing donor priorities and ensure that new local funding opportunities are identified and shared with the country SMT and Regional and global Resource mobilization teams in a timely manner, along with recommendations on whether and how to proceed.
  • Manage and perform other duties as assigned by the West and Central Regional Africa Representative.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Advanced degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Business Management, Project Management, International Development, Communications or other relevant field.
  • Minimum of five years’ relevant experience of which three must be related to partnership, advocacy and/or external relations; In-depth knowledge of rights-based approaches to sexual and reproductive health.
  • Experience working in maternal, reproductive and sexual health strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in maternal, reproductive and sexual health strongly preferred.
  • Experience in representing organizations in technical and advocacy fora; Demonstrable experience of effectively engaging with Cote d’Ivoire ministries, especially the Ministry of Health, development partners and NGOs working in Cote d’Ivoire, and private companies involved in work in the health sector or otherwise supporting the sector.
  • Fluent in French, and verbal and written communications skills in English.

PREFERRED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrated excellent partnership and relationship-building skills. Proven results in working with multiple collaborators. Strong knowledge of the advocacy and SRHR landscape in Cote D’Ivoire.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and oral communications skills.
  • In-depth understanding of Cote d’Ivoire political and social context and familiarity with key stakeholders and SRH and Women empowerment landscape. Proven record on advocacy and communication in the areas of SRHR and women empowerment.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills, including in use of graphics, diagrams and data. Experience of working in partnership with media bodies and journalists to advance a social issue.
  • In-depth exposure to the use of various media platforms such as print, electronic/ online, and social media, for communication and brand building.

ESSENTIAL SOFT SKILLS:

  • Comfortable working in a fast – paced environment and being held accountable for meeting ambitious targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to follow-up, meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities; Cooperative manner, flexibility and dependability; Ability to coach, mentor and develop others.
