The role

Capacity Development Specialist – Pacific Island Emergency Management Alliance is responsible for assisting the Project Manager in the delivery of capacity development initiatives within the PIEMA project through direct implementation, support, and provision of strategic advice in line with the guidance provided in the PIEMA Strategic Agenda 2020.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Strategic advice and support.
  • Reporting and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with stakeholders.

Key selection criteria

Qualifications

  • A graduate qualification (and/or equivalent work experience) in a relevant field relating to capacity development, training, emergency management, and disaster risk management.

Knowledge and experience

  • At least 5 years of practical experience in emergency management coordination, including advice and support to PICTs.
  • Experience in supporting regional projects and capacity building programmes.
  • Understanding of issues related to emergency management and related issues in the Pacific region.
  • Knowledge and technical expertise in capacity development in emergency management activities.

Essential skills

  • Project management skills, including design, coordination, implementation, monitoring, reviewing, reporting and compliance.
  • Monitoring and evaluation, including ability to document all actions and outcomes involved in the implementation of a regional project.
  • Strategic thinker with well-developed innovation and analytical skills.

Language skills

  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) with a working knowledge of French being an advantage.
  • Interpersonal skills and cultural awareness.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural, inclusive and equitable environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with member country governments and other regional and international organisations.

Contract Duration – until 30 June 2022
