Position Mandate

A member of Resonance’s Extended Leadership Team, the Director of Economic Growth (EG), will play a transformational role in the company’s growth from a small business to a sustainable and innovative mid-size firm. They will establish and drive Resonance’s EG growth strategy leading business development efforts in all areas related to EG, including agriculture, market systems, enterprise development, trade, competitiveness, and digital development. They will oversee technical excellence, quality control, and thought leadership in all areas in the EG sector. This is a full-time position reporting to the VP, of Government Services, traveling to developing countries to support business development and project implementation activities.


Technical Support & Client Engagement

  • Develop and introduce technical approaches, methods, and tools that leverage Resonance’s service offerings (partnership/PSE, innovation, innovative finance, and/or MEL) both within the EG sector itself and those that integrate with other sectors;
  • Coach and guide EG Sector, Business Development, and PDU team members to deliver technical excellence across the company and ensure high client satisfaction in all EG projects;
  • Provide technical oversight of subcontract and prime projects in the economic growth sector, advising on approaches, technical implementation, and troubleshooting as needed;
  • Oversee the refinement of EG-oriented technical approaches and services that align with Resonance’s mission and values;
  • Support Resonance thought leadership through writing blog posts and articles, making public presentations, attending, and speaking at relevant conferences, etc.;
  • Develop and manage strategic senior-level client relationships with development implementers, donor agencies, commercial customers, foundations, NGOs, and others.

Business Development

  • Spearhead the growth of Resonance’s EG portfolio by working with leadership and Business Development team to grow the EG practice and the organization by identifying, leading capture, and winning relevant opportunities, liaising with potential partners, and setting high-level EG strategy;
  • Achieve annual EG sector business development and revenue growth goals; contribute to the creation and execution of company capture plan;
  • Lead strategy and design during capture and proposal development processes, providing guidance and vision to proposal teams and serving as Proposal Chief and/or technical writer.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise a team of high performers with expertise in economic growth, agriculture, enterprise development, trade, competitiveness, and digital development;
  • Promote the effective professional development of team members;
  • As the team continues to grow, identify, and recruit high-level EG talent.


  • Advanced degree in international relations, economics, business administration, or related field;
  • 12-15 years of experience in USAID project management and business development;
  • Ten years of business development experience, including writing technical proposals and leading proposal teams;
  • Successful track record of winning USAID and other donor-funded EG prime bids;
  • Ten+ years of experience in one or more of the following technical areas: private sector engagement, agriculture and food security, market systems, enterprise development, digital development, trade, and competitiveness;
  • Three+ years of experience facilitating partnerships (as standalone initiatives or as a part of a larger donor project), preferably for international companies, NGOs, donors, or foundations operating in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East;
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills; including experience writing winning USAID technical proposals, thought leadership pieces, blog posts, and/or articles;
  • Strong team leadership skills; with experience developing and growing junior, mid-level, and senior-level staff;
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.


  • Fluency in French, Spanish, or Arabic preferred.
