You will have a collaborative and hands on mindset and commitment to feminism, anti-racism and social justice. You will be joining a dedicated team of people who care deeply about the difference we are able to make, working with women’s movements across the world.

Role Purpose

You will support the current interim Programme Manager until September 30, 2025. From then on, you will be responsible to lead the final implementation stage and manage the project close-out process of the 5-year advocacy focused programme, Advancing Women’s Engagement: Strengthening Opportunities to Mobilise for Equality (AWESOME). AWESOME focuses on two themes: Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and Women’s Participation and Leadership (WPL).

Womankind leads a consortium of six organisations implementing the AWESOME program. As the post holder, you will lead, coordinate, and manage the program at Womankind, working closely with five programme partners and the Joint Consortium Steering Committee (JCSC).

From 1 October 2025, your responsibilities include leading the project team and partners to deliver the final agreed activities and reports to the donor by May 1, 2026, and ensuring a comprehensive project closure and handover to Womankind by May 31, 2026.

You will be part of the AWESOME project team at Womankind, which includes the Director of Policy and Communications, Director of Programmes and Learning, two Policy and Advocacy Managers, an Impact and Learning Advisor, and a Programmes Finance Manager.

The role reports to the Director of Programmes and Learning.

Responsibilities

Final reporting (deadline 1 May 2026)

  • Lead the drafting of the final narrative annual report, including an overview of targets versus actual results for 2021–2025;
  • Report in IATI on the quantitative and qualitative programme for January–December 2025;
  • Collaborate with the Finance & Resources Team and partners on the final annual financial progress report, including auditor's report (2025), comparing the initial 5-year budget to total expenditure for 2021–2025.

Project and Consortium Management

  • Provide programme oversight and ensure effective programme operations are maintained in this final stage of the programme. This includes coordinating consortium partners and Womankind AWESOME project team and consultant hiring and oversight;
  • Collaborate with Womankind AWESOME team members, consortium partners, and stakeholders to develop and implement exit strategies and sustainability plans to ensure programme impact continues beyond the project lifecycle;
  • Support programme research and documentation to ensure quality evidence and learning outcomes;
  • Act as the programme's primary internal contact, documenting and sharing updates and learnings with Womankind staff;
  • Adopt and promote feminist practices and ways of working throughout the role.

Programme Governance

  • Coordinate and support Joint Consortium Steering Committee (JCSC) meetings, attend project meetings and ensure excellent project management documentation.

Person Specification

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Practical working experience in all key aspects of project cycle management including closing high value, complex projects;
  • Experience in managing reporting deadlines and coordinating with multiple stakeholders;
  • Experience working in partnership or multi-agency consortia, on projects funded by statutory donors;
  • Strong familiarity with government funding mechanisms, policies, guidelines and restrictions;
  • Demonstrable ability in administration, financial management, grant compliance, and tracking activity performance and costs, and final reporting and evaluation processes;
  • Working Knowledge of IATI standards and experience in reporting both quantitative and qualitative program data;
  • Direct experience of working with women’s rights organisations, women’s movements and civil society organisations in the majority world including in countries where the project is being implemented i.e. Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia. Experience of living in one of these Womankind focus countries would be useful;
  • Experience working with and/or coordinating remote teams;
  • Demonstrable skills and track record as a problem solver, undaunted by complex projects and issues and a strong, collegial team player who contributes to a creative and supportive work environment;
  • Very strong interpersonal communication and writing skills (in English), politically sensitive, able to recognise, influence and manage communication of sensitive issues;
  • Ability and willingness to undertake travel to programme partner countries – Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda.
