Overview

Banyan Global, an international development consulting firm, is seeking applications from qualified Lebanese candidates to serve as a Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist for an anticipated USAID-funded project intended to focus on supporting municipalities and underserved and vulnerable communities in providing better services and enhanced economic opportunities to improve lives and reduce tensions that contribute to conflict and violence, particularly in Lebanon’s North, South and Bekaa regions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership to ensure that project activities address gender considerations, and that project activities specifically address the needs of women, men, youth, and vulnerable populations;
  • Ensure that gender and social inclusion is integrated across the program, including project design, implementation and monitoring, as well as in staff training materials and policies and procedures;
  • Consider gender and social inclusion best practices and develop approaches to increase women’s and vulnerable populations’ participation in community development initiatives;
  • Draft a gender integration and female empowerment plan that will cover the entire activity cycle—planning, implementation, monitoring, and adapting;
  • Review and provide input to project work plans, with attention to gender and youth dimensions of technical activities and operations, and discuss gender and social inclusion issues and priorities with project senior management and other technical specialists;
  • Conduct gender analyses and research on gender norms and constraints in project locations in Lebanon;
  • Design and deliver training to team members and partners in gender integration to increase gender equity and female empowerment as they relate to project objectives;
  • Provide strategic technical guidance on gender integration to key personnel, project staff, government ministries, and project partners and stakeholders;
  • Develop appropriate gender resources and tools for project staff;
  • Maintain an up-to-date and thorough understanding of gender and social inclusion issues related to project components.

Qualifications

  • Lebanese nationality;
  • Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory;
  • Master’s Degree in international development, gender, or another related field;
  • Five or more years of experience working on gender integration initiatives;
  • Experience designing and facilitating trainings on gender and social inclusion issues and gender integration processes and techniques;
  • Strong negotiations and communications skills, and effective report-writing skills in Arabic and English;
  • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills, including experience with the selection and monitoring of effective gender indicators;
  • Capacity to be original and creative in strategies to integrate gender considerations into non-gender related programming;
  • Experience working on USAID and/or other international donor-funded development programs.
