About the Role

Reporting to the Deputy Team Leader, the Climate Change Adviser will provide advisory services that support integration of climate and disaster resilience in Australian aid investment programming and implementation. This includes building effective relationships with DFAT and Pacific stakeholders and providing advisory services and building capacities for comprehensive integration of climate change action across aid investment planning, program development, activity designs, risk management, and monitoring and reporting, and across broader policy frameworks.

Essential Qualifications/Experience

  • Contemporary knowledge of climate change in the Pacific and a strong understanding of international development in climate change and disaster risk reduction, with experience integrating approaches across sectors;
  • Advanced degree in environmental sciences, climate change adaptation and/or mitigation, natural resource management, or other relevant qualifications;
  • Minimum 10 years of senior-level experience managing and/or advising cross-sectoral international development programs on climate change adaptation including experience in the Pacific;
  • Demonstrated experience and understand of the Australian aid program and practice specifically relating to climate;
  • Proven ability in thinking and working politically; building strategic and strong working relationships with government and industry stakeholders; and identifying solutions to sensitive political and cultural issues.

About You

You will have experience in providing advisory services, coaching and mentoring to effect behaviour change among diverse stakeholders in government, civil society and the private sector, in a complex operating environment. You will have contemporary knowledge of climate change in the Pacific and a strong understanding of international developments in climate change and disaster risk reduction, with experience integrating approaches across sectors. You will have strong writing skills and experience providing technical support for briefings, including experience working with DFAT and/or in an international development context.
