Background

The five-year USAID Georgia Financial Innovation Program (“The Program) seeks to increase the flow of diversified investment resources and innovative financial products to Georgia's private sector in order to expand businesses, create jobs, and attract additional private investment. The Program will achieve this through a holistic approach that:

  • Strengthens the financial market regulatory environment and infrastructure institutions while leveraging innovations in financial technology;
  • Stimulates the market for equity and quasi-equity instruments and supports finance providers to offer an expanded set of innovative and diversified financial products and services tailored to Georgian start-ups and high potential SMEs; and,
  • Supports Georgian businesses to access fit-for-purpose financing instruments through a network of professional transaction advisors.

The Program will focus primarily, but not exclusively, on expanding access to finance for startups and SMEs with high potential for employment generation. It will also include a focus on nontraditional financial instruments. Furthermore, it envisions the establishment of a catalytic, blended finance investment mobilization platform to be available to de-risk and leverage innovation and risk taking. The Program will be implemented using adaptive management, enabling the Program to adapt activities and targets in response to changes in the political and economic landscape that arise during implementation.

Purpose of Position

The Communications Manager will lead the development and implementation of the Program’s communications plan and related project communications tools. The Communications Manager will lead the production of communications materials such as success stories, videos, photos, and reports and disseminate them to inform key audiences, including the client, of the Program’s progress and successes. The Communications Manager will ensure compliance with Program’s Branding and Marking plan.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develops and drives project's communications strategy and messages, as well as pitch strategies;
  • Develops compliant reports and publications such as project deliverables, newsletters, press releases, email announcements, planned publications, on-line, intranet, video, special projects and assignments;
  • Work with technical staff and the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)/CLA Manager to develop success stories;
  • Ensures the project is implemented according to the USAID-approved branding and marking strategy;
  • Trains project staff in implementing a compliant project communications strategy;
  • Manages internal communications and external media relations including work with communications firms and partner organizations.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, or related field;
  • Fluency in English and Georgian;
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills;
  • Prior experience in communications for USAID-funded projects;
  • Understanding of USAID branding regulations.
